Like the Camino del Norte, the Primitivo is an exciting alternative to the classic route. The so-called "original route" offers spectacular nature experiences and a cozy rural atmosphere.
More and more people have opened their eyes to the Primitivo, but the route is far from overrun. Most start in Oviedo with 321 km. to Santiago de Compostela, and especially the stretch to Grandas de Salime is a special experience with absolutely magnificent landscapes. If you go alone, you need to have an overview of the facilities along the route and be prepared for quite deserted stretches. In 2024 I did the trip twice, and both in June and October I was struck in the heart by the view at 1,200 meters above the river Nadia. A fantastic experience.
The Camino Primitivo can be a tough ride with the increasingly hilly terrain. But with a mix of short and longer days and a focus on recovery and well-being, we arrive safely. With room for individual wishes and needs. Join us on the Camino -

You are responsible for your own flights and travel (remember travel insurance). In addition, I will do my best to facilitate an unforgettable experience. The program lasts a total of 7 days, but you can participate for one day or more, as you like and have the opportunity. Or maybe you want to extend your stay on the Camino? Enjoy the view of the Nadia River
June 14th / Oviedo - Grado 25 km. with the possibility of driving the first 12 km. out of Oviedo. We start our pilgrimage in Oviedo, and soon we are surrounded by rural idyll. The few hills along today's route are manageable, and we have easy access to a few good cafes during the day. As every day with optional yoga, relaxation and meditation.
June 13th / Potential flight to Oviedo with a stopover in Barcelona or Bilbao. Alternatively bus 3.5 hours, Bilbao-Oviedo. Oviedo is the capital of Asturias and offers a fascinating old town centre. Time and place for check-in and welcome to be agreed in advance.
June 15th / Grado - Salas 22 km. Today's walk starts with a climb as we move further and further into the countryside. Otherwise, today's route is without the big straits. About halfway to Salas we stop in a small village with a 1,002 year old monastery and a couple of cozy cafes, before continuing through forests and lush surroundings with examples of traditional farmhouses and orchards.
June 16th / Salas - Tineo 20 km. Tineo, along with Grado and Salas, are some of the very few villages west of Oviedo. Again we start the day with a climb - a long one, but the path is good and the climb is even, so we don't burn out all our energy from the start.
June 17th / Tineo - Borres 16 km. The views become more and more spectacular as we move along the Primitivo. The "Original Route" begins to show itself from its most beautiful side with varied and magnificent scenery. A manageable day with plenty of time for recovery.
June 18th / Borres - Berducedo 24 km. After Borres there are two variants of the route. One is relatively easy to Pola de Allande, before continuing via a smooth climb to the mark at Puerto del Palo and so on with a total of 29 km. to Berducedo. Another option is the original route "Por Hospitales", which is 4-5 km. shorter, more challenging and without the possibility of refreshments until Berducedo. We are prepared and take our time along "Por Hospitales" in the company of wild horses and extraordinary views, and if the route still becomes too strenuous, there is the possibility of taxi driving the last 8-9 km. until Berducedo.
June 19th / Berducedo - Grandas de Salime 20.5 km. The day starts right at the first hour until La Mesa, a small cute place with a handful of houses located at an altitude of 950 meters. The two times I was there in 2024, I saw small wild rabbits in the village. From the cafe in La Mesa we go up to a fantastic view of the Navia river, from where we start a long descent of 1,200 altitude meters down to a hydroelectric dam that divides the river. On the other side it goes smoothly uphill again, and soon it is time for another cafe visit with wild views of the area before we reach the destination of our camino walk in charming Grandas de Salime. Maybe you choose an extra night, otherwise the trip will go to Oviedo or Lugo. Thanks for this time. Buen Camino.
