Camino del Norte, Bilbao & Santander
DIFFICULTY LEVEL
A both individial and social experience along the way
Cantabria is also a beautiful region with lush and magnificent landscapes. In Bilbao you have the opportunity to visit the Guggenheim (optional), and Bilbao, and like Santander at the end a city worth seeing. In between you can look forward to a fantastically beautiful coastline and various charming villages along the Camino.
While the first part of the Camino del Norte is like many steep hills, the subsequent stretch from Bilbao (La Arena) - Santander is more straight with predominantly flat stretches and gentle hills.
- Including breakfast & dinner/menu with drinks
- Overnight stay at selected albergue / hotel option
- Optional yoga, relaxation and meditation 30-60 min. per day
- Preparation, pilgrim passport, guide (Lasse) & first aid kit
You are responsible for your own airfare, and the trip is at your own risk (remember to have travel insurance). That being said, I will do my best to facilitate a special experience. The program lasts 7 days, but you can participate for one day or more, as you wish. In addition to my guide service, I offer yoga, relaxation and meditation, 30-60 min. daily. Or maybe you have enough of everything else that comes with it? Join the Camino and experience the special stretch from Bilbao (La Arena).

Discover the Camino in Cantabria
April 22 / To arrive Bilbao and check-in in the old town, the colorful Casco Viejo. Welcome.
April 23 / La Arena - Castro Urdiales 17 km. Possibility to visit the impressive Guggenheim Museum (10-11am) before we move on to the characteristic and unique bridge at Portugalete. Soon we are on to the beach at La Arena, where we share our intentions for the journey and start our pilgrimage via the coastal variant - a beautiful and pretty straightforward day to historic Castro Urdiales.
April 24 / Castro Urdiales - Islares 14 km. (including detour 2 x 3 km.) Breakfast and a view of the old port in historic Castro Urdiales, and soon we are exposed to more impressive views along the beautiful stretch to Islares. There are several options for overnight stays, e.g. at a small campsite with 4-person tents, beds and wooden floors - and then you should look forward to a surprise at the end of the day.
April 25 / Islares - Laredo 18 km. Another beautiful day in the lush Cantabria, which includes a long, steady climb before going pleasantly downhill to Liendo, which is located in a beautiful hill valley. From here we choose a unique camino variant (see first photo at the top) that leads the last stretch to Laredo with the option of staying overnight at a monastery, where the sweet nuns welcome us.
April 26 / Laredo - Noja 15 km. We start the day with an hour's walk along the beach in Laredo to a small bay. From here it's a short boat trip and a stop in the fishing village of Santoña with time for a drink or early lunch. With one exception, a pancake-flat stage with the opportunity to walk directly along three impressive beaches to the village of Noja.
April 27 / Noja - Güemes 15 km. The route leads inland for a while with small hills along the way. Most people may stay overnight at Albergue La Cabaña del Abuelo Peuto, typically a topic of conversation the following day. Every day with the option for yoga, relaxation & meditation.
April 28 / Güemes - Santander 16.5 km. A beautiful last day of hiking through attractive landscapes and directly along the spectacular Spanish north coast. Finally with another short ferry ride and arrival in Santander around 2 pm. Maybe you choose an extra night, otherwise you can easily return to Bilbao and the airport.
