Both an individual and social pleasure
The first part of the Camino del Norte is hilly, and it can be overwhelming with the many hills. We take time to rest and find our rhythm, and if the terrain still becomes too much for us, there is never far to go by bus, train or help from the local taxi driver.
May 3 / Irún - Pasai Donibane 16 km. Look forward to fantastic nature experiences! There are hills from the start, and after a visit to a cafe we take a Camino variant further up a ridge with wild views. At Pasai Donibane we cross the fjord in a small boat.
May 4 / Pasai Donibane - San Sebastian - (before) Orio 18 km. Again with hills from the start, but the path is of good quality, and soon we have a view of San Sebastian with time to explore the old town with direct access to the beaches.
May 5th / (before) Orio - Zarautz - Getaria 14 km. Another day of lush and stunningly beautiful landscapes and vineyards. We take time for breaks, and from the surfer village of Zarautz we choose an easy coastal route to the charming port town of Getaria.
May 6th / Getaria - Zumaia - Deba 16+2 km. First we move a little inland to Zumaia, where we take a detour to Playa Itzurun and Flysch, known for unique rock formations that have been the scene of "Game of Thrones". Ending at the square in Deba.
May 7th / Deba - Olatz - Markina 24 km. Possibility of driving 9 km. to Olatz. The king stage of the trip with hiking through spectacular landscapes and lush forests. We are prepared and find the rhythm of the day. Every day with optional yoga flow, relaxation and meditation.
May 2nd. / Flight to Bilbao, San Sebastian or Biarritz with easy access to the start of the Camino del Norte in Irún on the French-Spanish border. Possibility of a boat trip and city walk. Time for check-in and welcome to be agreed upon.
May 8th / Markina - Munitibar 12 km. (or total 25 km. to Gernika) Last day of hiking experiences beyond the usual. First we walk along a small stream, and soon it goes uphill again, until we reach the monastery and the 1,000-year-old church at Ziortza, where we taste the local monk's brew. At lunchtime we arrive at the village of Munitibar, and you can choose to continue to Gernika. Otherwise we take the bus to Bilbao with the option of visiting the Guggenheim Museum and ending in the colorful old quarter, Casco Viejo.
